Russian imports hit by duty increase

printer Mail

The Customs (Additional Duty) (Russia and Belarus) Regulations, SI 2022/376, increase import duty on certain goods originating in Russia and Belarus by 35%. The full list of goods subject to additional duty is set out in a separate table published by the UK government.

To lessen the impact on UK traders who have already shipped goods originating in Russia and Belarus, but which have yet to reach the UK customs border, the instrument contains a transitional provision. The effect of this is that the additional duty will not apply to goods originating from Russia and Belarus which were exported from those territories prior to the Regulations coming into force. The Regulations came into force on 25 March 2022.

The UK government has also announced a ban on exports to Russia of high-end, luxury goods.
