Scottish government postpones Budget

printer Mail

The Scottish government has confirmed it will postpone its 2020/21 Budget until after the next UK Budget following the general election. The Scottish Budget had been scheduled for 12 December.

Scottish finance secretary, Derek Mackay, explained: ‘Without a UK Budget we would not know the final details of any Barnett consequentials from UK spending, or the impact of UK tax decisions’.

‘It would also be better to consider any new UK Government tax policy announcements and the OBR’s new tax, social security and economic forecasts before a new Scottish Budget is brought forward’, he added.

The minister confirmed that the Scottish Budget would not now take place before Christmas and he would work to agree a new date with the Scottish Parliament’s finance committee as soon as possible.
