Business tax roadmap: the outlook for banks 

 
The Budget day Business tax road map contains a useful summary of the direction of travel for bank taxation in this parliament. The key message from the roadmap is that taxes are low but must be paid. Some might doubt whether the first part of this equation quite rings true for banks.
 
The summary confirms the commitment to shore up the UK’s position as a major financial centre. However there are unique risks posed by banks and building societies to the financial system and the wider UK economy so an appropriate tax contribution is required.
