Tax consultant jailed for four years
 
A tax consultant who marketed a dishonest pension scheme (the Stax scheme) has received a four-year gaol sentence. The Inland Revenue investigated the scheme which involved obtaining transfer payments from clients' pension funds to the pension funds of companies controlled by Stax. The pension funds bought 'EU annuities' on behalf of the clients who were then able to gain access to their funds without tax by way of loans from the annuity issuer which would never in fact be repaid.
