Tax simplification update

printer Mail

Following its pledge outlined in the Autumn Statement 2023 to put tax simplification at the heart of policy-making, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Nigel Huddleston, has set out some proposed tax simplification measures in a written statement on 16 January, including:

  • a consultation on changes to the CGT rules on alternative finance arrangements;
  • a new, online service for employees to claim tax relief on all their expenses so they will get relief sooner;
  • mandating payrolling of benefits in kind and enhancing the non-reimbursed expenses service; and
  • legislation to introduce a route for people to apply for National Insurance credits for parents and carers for tax years where they have not claimed child benefit to ensure that people do not miss out on their state pension entitlement.
