Taxing multinationals: Peers to question tax directors

The House of Lords economic affairs committee inquiry into taxing corporations in a global economy will hear evidence tomorrow from tax directors at GSK, BP and Reed Elsevier, as well as heads of tax at some of the major professional bodies.

The House of Lords economic affairs committee inquiry into taxing corporations in a global economy will hear evidence tomorrow from tax directors at GSK, BP and Reed Elsevier, as well as heads of tax at some of the major professional bodies.

Helen Jones, senior vice president head of tax at GSK, John Bartlett, group head of tax at BP, and Paul Morton, head of group tax at Reed Elsevier, are scheduled to give evidence at 3.35pm. Reed Elsevier owns LexisNexis UK, which publishes Tax Journal.

In a second session beginning at about 4.15pm, peers will question Chas Roy-Chowdhury, head of taxation at ACCA; Elspeth Orcharton, director of taxation at ICAS; Frank Haskew, head of ICAEW’s tax faculty; and Richard Woolhouse, head of tax and fiscal policy at the CBI.

A further evidence session will be held on Tuesday, 21 May. Witnesses have not yet been named.
