Global Forum publishes peer reviews on 12 countries including Liechtenstein and Monaco

More than 50 countries have either signed the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters or stated their intention to do so in a period of less than two years since the convention was amended, the OECD reported after the latest meeting of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes.

Delegates from 81 jurisdictions and 11 international organisations met in Cape Town. An increasing number of African countries are now members of the Global Forum, with Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon, Tunisia and Uganda joining recently, the OECD said.

Pravin Gordhan, South Africa’s minister of finance, said: ‘The work of the Global Forum is key for South Africa and the African region. Tax evasion is a barrier to development, growth and healthy societies. Seeing so many countries around the table today in Cape Town, working together to build a transparent environment, is very encouraging.’

The Global Forum published peer reviews on 12 countries: Argentina, South Africa, Dominica, Marshall Islands, Niue, Russia, Samoa, Sint Maarten, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Uruguay.
