On 14 February 2022, the UK and Scottish governments have agreed to establish two new green freeports in Scotland which are planned to be operational by spring 2023. Prospective bidders must pledge to reach net zero by 2045 and set out regeneration proposals for the area and create high quality jobs. The bidding process will open in the spring and close by summer 2022.
