UK economic outlook for 2011
John Hawksworth looks at what 2011 has in store for the economy

After suffering the deepest recession in the post-war era in 2008/09 the UK economy recovered rather faster during 2010 than had been expected at the start of the year. Manufacturing and construction which had been the sectors hit hardest by the recession saw the strongest bounce-backs during 2010. In the case of manufacturing this was helped by restocking and a rebound in exports on the back of stronger world trade growth. Services also saw a gradual recovery during the course of the year although there were signs from business surveys that this lost some momentum in the autumn.
