The UK has become the 40th country to ratify the World Health Organisation’s ‘Protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products’, part of its ‘Framework convention on tobacco control’. The protocol will come into force in 90 days, binding the parties to implement its provisions within five years.
The UK signed the protocol in December 2013 and fulfilled the final outstanding requirement this year by introducing legislation for the licensing of tobacco products manufacturing machinery.
