Following the announcement of its closure in Chancellor Kwarteng’s ‘Growth Plan 2022’ on 23 September 2022, the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) has confirmed it will cease its work after publication of the hybrid and distance working report, and formally close when the Spring Finance Bill 2023 receives royal assent.
The Office will publish its findings from the call for evidence on hybrid and distance working before the end of 2022 and will not undertake further work.
Interestingly, the introduction to the press release says that the OTS will formally close ‘when the next Finance Bill receives royal assent’, but in the main body clarifies that ‘formal closure will take effect when the Spring Finance Bill 2023 receives royal assent’.
