The European Commission is extending the EU temporary waiver of customs duties and VAT on imports from non-EU countries of medical devices and protective equipment used in the fight against covid-19 until 31 December 2021. The exemption was originally introduced by Commission Decision (EU) 2020/491 and had previously been extended to 30 April 2021.

For imports of medical supplies into the UK, HMRC had previously published guidance on relief from UK import duty and VAT for imports into the UK from 30 January to 31 December 2020.
