International competitiveness was high on the agenda last week not least due to revelations about Sir Cliff being robbed of a Eurovision Song Contest win through the intervention of General Franco in 1968. And 30 years later there is still controversy: I speak of course of Sebastien Tellier France's representative in this year's contest. Poor Mr Tellier has drawn fire from many quarters in his home country for choosing not to sing all of his song Divine in French claiming that he is only able to truly express his unique vision of sexuality through the medium of the English language. Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin never had this problem ...
