HMRC flags 1 January deadline
HMRC has launched an online registration service for the machine games duty (MGD) regime and has reminded those responsible for premises from which machine games are provided that they must register by 1 January 2013.
There are around 260,000 gaming machines in the UK. ‘MGD is an important change for the industry, as it will replace both amusement machine licensing duty and standard-rate VAT on net takings. It will be payable where customers pay to play a game on a machine in the hope of winning a cash prize which is greater than the cost to play,’ HMRC said.
Guidance is provided on the HMRC website.
