The Treasury Committee has assessed the suitability of Michael Jack and John Whiting for the positions of Chair and Tax Director of the Office of Tax Simplification.

Jack and Whiting were appointed on an interim basis when the OTS was established in July 2010, and were appointed on a permanent basis in September 2011.

The Committee found that both candidates met the criteria of ‘personal independence (including lack of conflicts) and professional competence’.

Jack, a former Treasury minister, is an adviser to HSBC, and Whiting remains Tax Policy Director at the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
