Budget analysis – Duties

Alistair Darling has set out his final Budget of this Parliament in a speech where the overarching message was the need to support businesses in order to generate tax revenue and wider prosperity. The Chancellor was keen to stress 'the role the Government can play in providing a launchpad for businesses to succeed' but as each announcement was made no doubt those businesses impacted by changes in duty were trying to weigh up whether the measures would mean blast off or a crash landing for their own revenue.
