HMRC has updated its coronavirus job retention scheme guidance to reflect the changes that apply from 1 September 2020. The government will now pay 70% of wages up to a maximum of £2,187.50 for the hours an employee is on furlough, with employers required to top up wages to 80% (up to the £2,500 cap).
The government also launched the new kickstart scheme on 2 September 2020, offering six-month work placements to 16–24 year olds who are on universal credit, with wages paid by the government at the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week.
