HMRC is extending the trial period, during which the paper version of the CGT on UK property return is available to download, to 30 September 2023 (from 30 June). The initial trial, which started on 28 February 2023, responded to concerns around the procedure for those who were digitally excluded (so could not use the online reporting service) but needed to report a UK property disposal within 60 days of completion. Rather than having to telephone HMRC to ask for a paper form (and potentially being stuck in a queue and subject to postal delays), the trial allows taxpayers or their agents to download the form directly. HMRC stresses that the paper form can only be used where the individual is unable to use the online reporting service. The CIOT has asked for the download option to be made permanent.
