Making Tax Digital for VAT: a reminder that from 1 November 2022 businesses who file their VAT returns on a quarterly and monthly basis will no longer be able to submit them using their existing VAT online account, unless HMRC has agreed they are exempt from Making Tax Digital. HMRC is contacting businesses before November to make sure they know this and where to find further support.
Customs Declarations Service: HMRC reminds businesses to make all their import declarations using the CDS from 1 October. Importers who were not ready are advised to use a customer agent. Temporary Extension of CHIEF is being allowed for some businesses, via an online application.
Personal tax account: most taxpayers signing into their personal tax account use their Government Gateway user ID and password. From 3 October 2022, those with another set of sign-in details linking to HMRC’s self-assessment service will be given the option to access their account and self-assessment using the same sign-in details. Support is also offered to those who can’t complete the online process.
