HMRC’s Stakeholder Digest (30 November 2021) summarises some of the key announcements made on Tax administration and maintenance day, noting that the Tax administration and maintenance command paper sets out an overview of the proposals, consultations and responses. The digest also links to new research commissioned by HMRC, also published on 30 November, looking at the characteristics of ‘unaffiliated tax agents’, i.e. agents who are not members of a professional body – particularly relevant to the raising standards in the tax advice market consultation and the aim to ensure any measures are appropriately targeted.

HMRC’s Stakeholder Digest (19 November 2021) rounds up recent developments and reminders, including the following:

  • Taxpayers and agents must include details of coronavirus grants in company tax returns (CT600) and self-assessment tax returns.
  • Plastic packaging tax (PPT) will be introduced on 1 April 2022. The digest includes useful links to updated guidance, webinar recordings and consultation documentation on draft secondary legislation for PPT (the consultation ran until 11:45pm on 1 December 2021).
  • From 1 December 2021, HMRC will stop making tax credits payments to post office card accounts – instead paying the amounts direct into recipients’ bank accounts.
  • The DWP has introduced a new online service which will help employers manage child maintenance deductions from employees’ pay.
