Personal tax reform: a not-so-modest proposal

Perhaps it is now time for a radical simplification of personal taxation? George Gillham (Fieldfisher) sets out some ideas for a fairer and better tax system.

I remember my tutor on the Inland Revenue inspector training course saying that any experienced tax professional could draft you a fairer and better tax system than our current one on the back of a cigarette packet.

Perhaps now is the time to propose a radical simplification of personal taxation. This starts from a central tenet which is that being a citizen of the United Kingdom a vibrant first world democracy with universal adult suffrage should be a thing to be proud of.
