According to the Independent (11 November), local businesses in the Welsh town of Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons were so incensed by press revelations about loopholes that large global corporations use to pay little or no corporation tax that they submitted their own DIY tax plan to HMRC, which copies the offshore arrangements used by global multinationals to avoid tax. The paper claims that the Powys-based tax protest, led by local traders who were advised by experts and followed by a BBC crew, could spread nationwide. The BBC2 documentary, The Town that Went Offshore, will be televised in 2016.
