In June 2008 HMRC served statutory demands on two partners in a firm of solicitors who had substantial tax liabilities dating back to 2003/04. They failed to pay the tax and in September 2008 HMRC presented bankruptcy petitions. The hearing of the petitions was initially adjourned.
