Sir Edward Troup was a senior civil servant at HM Treasury and then HMRC. Edward is a former tax partner at Simmons & Simmons and he was a special adviser to Chancellor Kenneth Clarke from 1995 to 1997. He rejoined HM Treasury in 2004, and became executive chair and first permanent secretary of HMRC from April 2016 until December 2017. He was knighted in the 2018 new year honours for public service to taxpayers and the tax system.
