Agent Update 122

printer Mail

HMRC’s Agent Update for August 2024 includes the following highlights:

  • HMRC have recently released an updated version of its customer brief outlining the basis on which it is prepared to settle open Franked Investment Income Group Litigation Order (FII GLO) issues. HMRC say that the brief has already been shared with agents representing FII GLO claimants. Agents who are affected but have not been contacted should get in touch with their Customer Compliance Manager if they have one, or email cisc.general@hmrc.gov.uk.
  • Reminder of the 22 October 2024 payment deadline for tax and NICs under PAYE settlement agreements (for electronic payments).
  • HMRC will stop sending some paper corporation tax letters where information is available online. From September the following letters will no longer be issued:
    • CT205/A return reminder;
    • CT608 instalment payment reminder;
    • CT207 interest statement; and
    • CT209 payment receipt.

From October, the CT603A will be stopped but companies will still receive the CT603 notice to file.

From September 2024 until January 2025 HMRC will also trial no longer sending CT208 reminders, before stopping sending them permanently. HMRC will monitor the effect and stop the trial if it sees a negative impact. The letters to be trialled are:

  • CT208 PR1 payment reminder;
  • CT208 PR2 return and payment reminder; and
  • CT208A PR2 return and payment reminder agent copy.
  • HMRC intend to release the updated R&D tax relief Additional Information Form in September (to reflect the new R&D tax relief regime) and will ‘simultaneously’ update the accompanying regulations (presumably the Relief for Research and Development (Content of Claim Notifications, Additional Information Requirements and Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations, SI 2023/813).
