The special relationship: the IRS and HMRC

The relationship

Much has been made of the special relationship between the UK and the USA. It is perhaps less well known that there is a similarly strong relationship between the revenue authorities of the two countries. The author who has a background at HMRC Solicitor's Office has seen this first hand from his days of advising the Special Compliance Office (now SI). The relationships between senior officials from both organisations have always been very good. Meetings were held on a regular basis to exchange ideas and more than one pub in the UK has seen detailed technical discussions and ideas swapping over a few beers.
