The government has launched a new £20m SME Brexit support fund, to help SMEs adjust to the new customs and VAT rules which apply when trading with the EU. The fund will provide grants of up to £2,000 per business which can be used to cover training on completing customs declarations and managing customs processes, and on professional advice in relation to customs, excise and import VAT requirements. The application process is set to open in March and will be managed under the existing customs grant scheme. The aim is to help businesses prepare for the phased introduction of import controls between April and July 2021.
