Calls for long-term financial planning and tax simplification in Scotland

printer Mail

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has called on the Scottish government to take a long-term approach to its financial planning, adopt tax simplicity and standardise access to apprenticeships across the UK and urged the government to make its plans for sustainable growth clearer.

This comes after the announcement by the Scottish government that £500m worth of cuts are needed this fiscal year. According to ICAS:

  • far more clarity and transparency is needed about planning public finances where currently no strategic, long-term vision for raising and spending public funds exists;
  • more certainty is required as businesses and investors need confidence in the environment they operate in; and
  • certainty around net zero goals to be achieved before 2045 to give a clearer picture of the context in which businesses and other organisations will be operating.
