The Scottish government is consulting on how Scotland should use its share of the funding from the apprenticeship levy being introduced in the UK from April 2017. Employers with a pay bill over £3m each year will be required to contribute to the new levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers.
The Scottish minister for employability and training, Jamie Hepburn, said: ‘The UK government has introduced this levy without any consultation with Scotland, despite the fact that apprenticeship policy is devolved to the Scottish Parliament.’ The Scottish government will be working with employers to develop a ‘distinctly Scottish approach’.
