The UK and Scottish governments have agreed to establish two new green freeports in Scotland.
The green freeports will encourage businesses to move towards net zero, with prospective bidders required to make a pledge to reach the net zero target by 2045.
The bidding process will open in spring and close in summer 2022, after which the bids will be assessed, and successful locations announced. Bidders must set out how they will regenerate the area, create high-quality jobs and support the transition to a net-zero economy. The new sites are expected to be operational by spring 2023.
Progress has also been reported on potential agreement for a new freeport in Wales.
