The government estimates that up to 50,000 individuals will be affected by the disguised remuneration loan charge. This was confirmed by the financial secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride, in his answer to a written parliamentary question (see https://bit.ly/2MLaksp).

However, fewer than 30 individuals declared the use of a loan scheme on their 2016/17 self-assessment returns, Stride said. He also said that no estimate has been made of the number of schemes currently operating in the UK.
