The European Commission is calling for evidence on the proposal for a directive on ‘Business in Europe: a framework for income taxation’ (BEFIT). This will introduce a common set of rules for EU companies to calculate by way of a formula their taxable base while ensuring a better allocation of profits between EU countries. This is part of an initiative to devise a coherent approach to corporate taxation in the EU while reduce compliance costs. The consultation closes on 5 January 2023, and if member states are unanimously in favour, the Directive would be adopted in Q3 2023.
