Malcolm Darling one of Edinburgh's MP's pointed out some years ago that Edinburgh is the fourth-largest financial centre in Europe. It is therefore not surprising that there have been several significant cases on various matters involving businesses in the financial services and insurance sectors that have come before the Scottish VAT Tribunal. This article considers some of these and reveals that decisions of the Edinburgh VAT Tribunal have often later been 'followed' by the European Court of Justice.
