HMRC has sent a further 250,000 letters and emails to VAT-registered businesses, advising them to ‘act now to continue trading with Europe from 1 January 2021’. The letter urges businesses to immediately appoint a specialist to handle import and export declarations or to take the necessary steps to deal with declarations themselves, to avoid disruption. HMRC publishes lists of customs agents fast parcel operators.
The letter also reminds businesses that the ‘transitional simplified procedures’ (for which some business may have been registered under the government’s previous Brexit preparations back in 2019) have been replaced by the simplified declaration procedure.
