HMRC hosts Twitter Q&A for employers on RTI

Tax bodies update guidance on letters of engagement

HMRC will offer ‘interactive support’ during a Twitter Q&A between 11 and 15 March, to help employers prepare for ‘real time information’ (RTI) reporting for PAYE from 6 April.

Employers will report to HMRC each time they pay their employees, rather than annually. They are invited to follow @HMRCgovuk and use the hashtag #RTIqa.

HMRC’s PAYE system will be unavailable from Wednesday, 3 April to Friday, 5 April for the annual upgrade and installation of the 2013/14 release. ‘Once the system is back up on 6 April submissions will go through in order,’ the Chartered Institute of Taxation said last Friday. ‘Submissions from pilot employers can still be sent during the period from 3 to 5 April, but they will be held until 6 April.’

The leading tax and accounting bodies have updated guidance on the letters of engagement for tax practitioners to take account of RTI for those providing payroll services.
