‘It’s good for the firm [Slaughter and May]. My wife likes to tease me for being called a legend. Legend? I’ve just been around and very lucky. But anyone’s next step in tax could be a misstep if you are not careful. Fortunately I have always had great clients and excellent people around me in the Firm. That and the constant variety in the job is why I have stayed here into my mid-70s.’
He stood down some time ago as head of tax after 30 years in the role. ‘I liked having trainees with me – until they became younger than my children!...
