The European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee has approved the Commission’s proposal for automatic exchange among national tax authorities of tax information provided in the country-by-country reports filed by multinational companies with annual revenues exceeding €750 million.
MEPs insist that the Commission should have full access to the information exchanged among tax authorities, enabling it to assess member states’ compliance with state aid rules.
These revisions are being made to the Administrative Cooperation Directive and form a key part of the Commission’s anti-tax avoidance package adopted in January 2016. The next stage is a debate and vote in a plenary session of the Parliament scheduled for 11/12 May. See www.bit.ly/1Qz1SWX.
