HMRC has reported that some agents are receiving error messages when attempting to file VAT returns for non-making tax digital (MTD) clients. HMRC has said that any agent who receives an error, informing them that the client has already signed up to MTD, when the client has not yet done so, should continue through the screens to file their client’s non-MTD VAT return. HMRC anticipates that this issue will affect around 190,000 businesses whose accounts have been migrated or will be migrated to the newly integrated enterprise tax management platform (ETMP) in the coming months and is working on a solution to prevent the incorrect messaging.
