HMRC have issued new guidance on claiming refunds of overpaid PAYE for the current or a previous tax year. The guidance advises businesses to first work out why they overpaid before making a refund claim using the online service or by post. HMRC will first offset any refund against outstanding PAYE or other tax liabilities for the current or previous tax years but if no tax is owed will issue a refund. In line with turnaround times for certain other applications HMRC expect refund claims to take 40 working days.
