New Treasury ministerial team

Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP is appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer. She is she is the first female chancellor in British history. In other appointments:

  • Darren Jones is appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury (responsible for public expenditure);
  • Lord Livermore becomes Financial Secretary to the Treasury (‘the Growth Minister for HM Treasury’). Livermore has previous experience working at McKinsey & Company, Teneo Blue Rubicon and Saatchi & Saatchi. Prior to working in business, he served in government for ten years, in the Treasury as Chief Strategy Adviser to the Chancellor, and then as Director of Strategy to the Prime Minister;
  • James Murray is appointed Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury (‘responsible for growth, productivity and investment’ and certain taxes, including excise duties, charities, digital service taxes and Pillars One and Two); and
  • Tulip Siddiq is the new Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister (responsible for financial services and financial services tax, including bank levy, bank corporation tax surcharge, and insurance premium tax).
