NI number cards: an update

printer Mail

HMRC will not issue national insurance number cards to adults from next month. Adults who need a national insurance number for the first time will receive the number in a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions.

HMRC will continue to issue cards until later in the year to those approaching age 16.

Replacement cards have not been provided since October last year. Employers are asked to bear in mind that a growing number of people will have a letter instead of a card.
