No safe havens 2019: HMRC’s renewed focus on offshore non-compliance

Although this year’s Spring Statement was heavily overshadowed by Brexit the government nevertheless took the opportunity to affirm its commitment to tackling tax non-compliance. While the chancellor’s speech and supporting documents offered little by way of announcements about tax it is significant that two of the four tax policy papers which the government chose to publish on the day relate to HMRC’s strategy and approach towards tax compliance.

The first publication No safe havens 2019 (see bit.ly/2u2YL8P) comprises a set of policy papers in which the government has refreshed and re-focused its strategy for offshore compliance which was first launched in 2013.
