How did you end up in tax?
In my first job as a young lawyer I did the customary ‘rotation’ among various departments. Compared to many other areas in which custom and practice seemed to be all-important I found the need to refer to the statute and regulations in tax to be intellectually satisfying. It was like solving a challenging puzzle every time I was asked to do a new research assignment and I was hooked.
What’s the biggest practical problem you face in your role?
Making sure all relevant US tax statutes and precedents affecting a client matter are identified and considered. The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the courts write down everything they do and publish it so there is a lot to read on every subject before you can...
