Begbies Traynor Group is planning to sell its tax division in order to ‘focus on its core skills’. Ric Traynor, Executive Chairman, said: ‘In spite of the [tax division’s] improved financial performance in the year, profitability was constrained due to a reduced demand for tax planning services, primarily due to a tougher stance towards tax planning activities adopted by the Government and HMRC, and a continued low demand for transactional tax services due to the weak economic recovery.’

Smith & Williamson announced the promotion to Associate Tax Director of Susan Roller, a private client tax specialist, in its Salisbury office.
