PPR consultation

In line with the commitments made in Budget 2018 the government has launched a consultation on principal residence relief (PRR). As announced in the Budget with effect from 6 April 2020 PRR requirements in respect of the final period exemption and lettings relief will be revised as follows:

  • The final period exemption is to be reduced once again (the last time was in April 2014) from 18 months to nine months. (The 36 month exemption for disabled persons and those in residential care homes will not be affected.)
  • Lettings relief will only be available where the owner shares occupation of the property with the tenant while it is rented out.
