Modernised stamp duty on UK land now has a name an acronym (SDLT) and is back on timetable for implementation later this year. My earlier article in The Tax Journal Issue 678 3 February 2003 described the point reached in the consultative process before its abrupt suspension in January. What turned out to be a three month 'holiday' in the consultation has evidently been put to good use by Inland Revenue officials and Parliamentary Counsel who have now completed 142 pages of primary legislation.
