Amid continuing economic uncertainty the chancellor of the exchequer last week cancelled his proposed autumn Budget and instead announced what was in effect a third major round of coronavirus support measures.
The first round of measures was introduced in response to the severe restrictions that were placed on individuals and business in March; these included perhaps most notably the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS). As the restrictions began to be lifted the second round of measures which included the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme was designed to support and encourage the opening up of the economy.
