Tackling of tax credit losses is poor, admits HMRC

HMRC has admitted its performance in reducing tax credits error and fraud is disappointing, according to a report by the House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts. HMRC missed its target to reduce tax credit error and fraud to 5% by 2010/11 by a wide margin; the actual level was 8.1% in 2010/11. The Committee has made a number of recommendations to HMRC to help it reduce tax credits error and fraud.
