TAM Day: high maintenance?

What exactly is the purpose of Tax Administration and Maintenance Day, and how did the latest one measure up? Chris Sanger (EY) investigates.

What is the purpose of the event?

TAM Day is intended to address elements of tax change that are important but that don’t (yet) require policy modifications. Aimed predominantly at the tax technical audience TAM Day may lack the prestige of a Budget but it still serves the distinct purpose of focusing the minds of the tax community on areas of tax administration.

From the perspective of tax policy making there is a benefit of having a particular day for such announcements. It provides a single point of reference for the announcements in the year making it easier to track changes as they are announced and consulted upon. However this was not quite the message communicated in the written ministerial statement...
