The department has launched 54 taskforces since 2011 and plans to launch a further 16 in 2013/14 and up to 30 in 2014/15. ‘HMRC has collected more than £90m as a result of taskforces launched since 2011/12,’ said exchequer secretary David Gauke. ‘It expects to bring in over £90m a year from taskforces launched over the next three years.’ Jennie Granger, HMRC’s director general of enforcement and compliance, warned that deliberately falsifying VAT records can lead to imprisonment.
